Start with the
questions you
actually have.

Christianity isn't a club for people who have it figured out. It's an invitation to look honestly at Jesus — who he was, what he claimed, and what it might mean for you.

Where to Begin

Two questions we're
asked most.

You don't have to work through everything at once. Most people start in one of these two places — so we've written honestly about both, without the churchy shorthand.

01

Why Jesus?

Plenty of people admire Jesus as a teacher. He didn't leave that option open. Here's what he actually claimed — and why it still matters.

02

What is Baptism?

It looks like getting wet in front of people you know. It means something far bigger. Here's what baptism is, what it isn't, and who it's for.

01 — Why Jesus?

Why Jesus, and not
something else?

Every faith has a founder worth respecting. Jesus is the only one who claimed to be God, forgave sins that were never committed against him, and told his friends he would be executed and then come back.

01

He is not a legend.

Jesus of Nazareth is among the best-attested figures of the ancient world. Historians who share none of our convictions still agree that he lived, gathered followers, and was executed under Pontius Pilate. Whatever you decide about him, you are not deciding about a fairy tale.

02

He said things no good teacher says.

He forgave sins committed against other people. He accepted worship. He promised a dying criminal they would meet that day in paradise. A merely wise man does not talk this way. He was deluded, he was dishonest — or he was telling the truth.

03

He did for you what you cannot do yourself.

Christianity does not teach that good people go to heaven. It teaches that forgiven people do. Jesus lived the life we have not lived, absorbed the death we had earned, and walked out of the grave. Grace is never a reward for the sorted — it is a rescue for the stuck.

“I am the way and the truth and the life.”

Jesus · John 14:6

Not sure what you believe?

Good — that's exactly the right place to start. Nobody at Flourish Hill will ask you to pretend. Come with the objections you actually hold.

02 — What is Baptism?

A public yes to what
God has already done.

Baptism doesn't make you a Christian any more than a wedding ring makes you married. Yet it is a public and visible declaration of an inward conviction which Jesus asks of those who would follow Him.

What Baptism Is

  • A public declaration of an inner belief.
  • A picture following Jesus from death to resurrection – going beneath the waters and rising again to new life.
  • The entrance into the church, God's family.

What Baptism Isn't

  • A saving ritual. It is only faith in Jesus that saves, baptism is a reflection of that faith.
  • A 'level up'. This is an earnest step of obedience, not a way to earn more merit.
  • A performance. It's about getting things 'just right', rather about a sincere commitment.
